Day: Thursday
Colors: Blue

Jupiter is, shoulder to shoulder with Venus, one of the greatest beneficent bodies in the sky. It is the ruler of Sagittarius and the traditional ruler of Pisces. Where it resides prosperity, width, and progress are inevitable, for its purpose seems to be to give us purpose, push us into the bright future, and bring hope, faith, perspective, and blessings. Even in the weakest of positions, Jupiter is never maleficent, and its only bad manifestation shows through unrealistic expectations or a stiff, inadaptable set of beliefs that puts boundaries to our abilities and possible achievements. Jupiter is large, and we can almost imagine it wearing a smile. At the same time, it is named by the Roman king of all gods and seems to rule all other planets, dignified and uplifted way above earthly comprehension. Its mental role can be too vast and take over us, making us forget our abilities in the material world. Once grounded it brings prosperity and enriches our lives in every area it affects.

Planet Jupiter

Jupiter is the largest and most massive planet in the Solar system with a mass so big that it rotates with the Sun around a point set outside of it. Its day is extremely short as it spins incredibly fast. Mostly made of gas and with 67 confirmed moons, Jupiter is truly a planet of incredible features. Because of its strong gravity field, it is often seen as the protector of the world as we know it, for this characteristic has the ability to turn meteors and space debris off course, and attract them to its surface so they never reach the Earth. Colorful clouds we see on the surface of Jupiter are nor very thick, and they are made out of ammonia crystals. Along with Saturn, it represents the last boundary visible to the naked eye, and is referred to as one of the “gas giants.”

Jupiter in Astrology

Astrological interpretations often idealize Jupiter, and this isn’t strange considering its role in the chart. The beneficent nature of this planet gives us hope and it is no wonder that we wish to see it through pink goggles, expecting all the wonders it will bring into our lives. Every time we approach Jupiter in a horoscope, we have to remember that no transit, progression or direction will cause any incredible positive circumstances happening, unless if they are fully supported by the possibilities seen through one’s natal chart. So if Jupiter currently moves through your seventh house, it might bring marriage or eternal love into your life, but only if there is a potential in your natal chart for this to happen at all. If there is no obvious connection between Jupiter and the seventh house ruler or planets in it in its natal setting, hardly ever will these incredible opportunities it might bring actually come to life.

In general, each natal chart has a point of protection and width presented by the position of Jupiter. It is our teacher and all we choose to learn, as well as our system of beliefs and convictions that define our reality. If it is set in Capricorn (fall) or Gemini (detriment) we can assume that either these convictions are too stiff and don’t make progress possible, or the person keeps them on a mental plain, unaware of ways to find a connection to material reality. Each problem with Jupiter leads to problems with vision, imagination, imagery and the sense of purpose. The greatest challenge it can bring is a total lack of meaning and purpose in one’s life.

Manifestations

Jupiter will be recognized in our lives as wisdom, moral, and our noble attitude. It is our ability to give from the heart and believe in the best possible future, optimism, and our life philosophy. This is a planet of great mass and diameter, and always speaks of excessive overdoing of all sorts of things. So for example if it is set in the second house, it will speak of overspending and overeating, just like it would in a challenging aspect with Venus. In our body, it stands for blood and thighs, ruling the sign of Sagittarius and finding its exaltation in Cancer. The most Jupiter can give hides in our family and our home, and even though we primarily search for it outside of ourselves, traveling and circling our beautiful planet, its greatest treasure seems to be in pointing us to the feeling of home found inside our hearts.

This planet is our guru, the college we decide to attend, our calling and our mission in life brought down on an earthly plane. It is pricy, rich, and filled with expensive things and wealth. It stands for justice and lawyers, salvation and asylums, as well as all amulets and lucky charms that we believe protect us and bring us luck. Speaking of distances, travel, and destinations that are far away or unknown, Jupiter is a tool to widen our perspective and raise our consciousness through satisfaction, movement, adventure, knowledge and acceptance.
